Current strains in the world economy remind us that international economic affairs are strongly affected by politics within and among nations. Government policies toward international trade, finance, and investment are increasingly hotly contested.

Can the current era of globalization be sustained? Or will it suffer the fate of the previous age of global capitalism in the nineteenth and early twentieth century, which came to an end to disastrous effect? What do trends in the American political economy portend for America's role in the world economy?

Professor Frieden specializes in the politics of international monetary and financial relations. He is the author of several books and articles appearing in a variety of scholarly and general interest publications.
