Single Sourcing Made Easy
from Miscellaneous Group
This event has passed.
Monday, October 13, 2008, 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Single sourcing has gotten hot in the last year, but it's actually existed since 1991 when Doc-To-Help first let us create Word documents and re-use them as Windows Help systems. But despite existing for 17 years, there's still a lot of confusion about single sourcing. What is it? (And what's multi-channel publishing?) Does it demand exotic and expensive authoring tools and XML? How hard is it to create? Maintain?

This presentation will answer these questions in order to demystify single sourcing and show how it can typically be done with the tools and skills that most technical communicators have now.

About the Presenter:
Neil Perlin has 29 years experience in technical communication, with 23 in training, consulting, and development for various online formats and tools; please check Neil’s website at www.hyperword.com for all of his services or email him at nperlin@concentric.net.

In addition, Neil is a columnist and frequent speaker for the STC, IEEE PCS, and other professional groups, a member of the STC’s Boston chapter, the creator and manager of the Beyond the Bleeding Edge stem at the STC’s annual conference from 1999 to 2006, and an Associate Fellow of the STC. He’s also been doing single sourcing since 1991, although he didn’t realize that’s what he was doing at the time.
